Ackerson Music Lessons

Music Lessons for All Ages

1st Lesson Free!

Ackerson Music Lessons offers beginner level music lessons in Maricopa, AZ for all ages. Currently we offer private or group piano lessons, trombone lessons, and beginner guitar lessons. We are willing to customize lessons for other instruments on request.

Here at Ackerson Music Lessons, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument. Music should be a part of everyone's lives. Playing an instrument we love can relieve stress, and give us an outlet for our feelings. Music can give us a feeling of accomplishment when we finish a song, or successfully play a part of a song that we were having a hard time playing. It's also a very fun thing to do! Research shows there are many benefits in taking piano lessons, trombone lessons or guitar lessons.

If you have the courage to begin,
you have the courage to succeed!

No matter what the instrument, students have the opportunity to learn about music theory, music terminology, note reading, scales, playing by ear, improvisation, and effective practice techniques. Other techniques such as chords, arpeggios, trills, and various others will be taught as applicable to the instrument. Age appropriate activities are used to help reinforce certain concepts.
If they choose to, students will be able to earn stars, stickers and prizes for achievements at their lessons and from practice time.

Piano Lessons:

We believe students enjoy playing and practicing more when they are playing music that they like. Therefore, as the student progresses in their playing, they are given more and more opportunities to choose the songs they are assigned. Absolute beginners are usually started out with the Hal Leanard Student Piano Library. This includes many popular easy songs to learn. Once a student is ready, they have the option to switch to the Celebration Series: Perspectives, which provides a wide range of music from the Baroque, Romantic, and Classical periods, to the more recently composed works of the 20th and 21st century. We supplement this series with any genre of music that the student chooses. This series of music is nationally recognized by The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program. They also will have the opportunity to participate in The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program assessments upon completion of each grade level.

Trombone Lessons:

We offer trombone lessons as a supplement to school band or as a stand alone course of lessons. We believe students enjoy playing and practicing more when they are playing music that they like. Therefore, as the student progresses in their playing, they are given more and more opportunities to choose the songs they are assigned. Students choose whether to go through the Essential Elements course books or The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program. We will help with any solo or ensemble pieces they want to learn as well as marching techniques if the student wishes.

Beginner Guitar Lessons:

I believe students enjoy playing and practicing more when they are playing music that they like. Therefore, as they progress through the basics, they will have more and more choice in what songs they are assigned to learn. Students usually start with either Alfred's Basic Guitar Method or Everybody's Guitar Method books. I prefer to teach by the notes first, but TAB will be introduced and used for supplemental songs during the course of their lessons.

Other Instruments:

We are willing to customize lessons to fit your needs in other instruments as well. Just make a request. The fundamentals of music are the same no matter the instrument. If you do request an instrument that we do not play, we are willing to do the research needed to be able to teach the basics of the instrument. We will give the student a good foundation in music and help pick goals to work towards.

Recitals:

We have 2 recitals each year. It is a great opportunity to work on performance skills and we prefer that everyone participates. Since my students perform, I do as well and we try to make it a relaxing and fun event.

At Home:

In order to learn any instrument, the student must practice. We recommend playing each task on their practice sheet at least 5 times each time they practice and it is usually easier if a specific time is set aside each day for practice. The more often a student practices what they are assigned, the faster they will progress.
